Statement of Conversion and Call
I trusted Christ as my personal Savior at the age of twelve on a week long youth camping / canoeing trip. I was baptized the next day, June 24th, in the Calcasieu River and into the membership of Bethany Baptist Church.
As a youth, I was mentored and discipled by our pastor, “Brother E.” I first felt God’s call to ministry during the Summer of 1988, and committed my life to ministry that same summer. As a high school student I was licensed by Bethany Baptist Church in LeBleu Settlement, and upon being called to Memorial Baptist Church in 1998, I was ordained into the gospel ministry.
Over the years I have served in various roles in the local church. Most of these roles have been in the area of working with students and education ministries. My sense of calling to ministry is one to the local church. I feel called to serve Christ in the local church by seeking to please Him, see people deepen their faith and choose Christ over all else.
Statement of Philosophy of Ministry
It is my understanding that ministry is two fold. One is in regard to my ministry to God; it is laid out before the believer to be a minister to God by seeking to glorify him and not ourselves. The second aspect of ministry is one directed to people. It is known as the “ministry of reconciliation” in the scripture (2 Corinthians 5:18), it is the assignment of believers to reach out to those who are separated from God. Thus, ministry is two fold in that it is glorifying God in living for Him and reaching others with the Gospel.
Statement on the Church
I believe the church can find its purpose clearly stated in the Scripture. In Acts 2:42-47 one can find a great pattern for a healthy vibrant church. In this passage a deep commitment to evangelism, discipleship, ministry, fellowship, worship and prayer are found in the pattern of church. A church must seek to find itself within the bounds laid out in this passage. Simply put, it is easier to follow this, than a man-made pattern of church.
The church’s source of power is the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8), its source for wisdom is God (James 1:5), and its message is Jesus Christ and his cross (Galatians 6:14). The resource for finding this truth is the inspired infallible Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16).
